America is the home of the brave and, apparently, the stupid and gullible. Satirist Leland Gregory teaches us a lesson in historical hilarity with Stupid American History.
From Columbus to George W. Bush (that's a lot of material, people), Leland leads us through American history's mythconceptions, exposing idiocy and inanity along the time line. He reeducates by informing us about myths. For example, Samuel Prescott actually was the guy to alert us that the British were coming and not that Paul Revere dude.

Move over Colbert and Stewart; satire has finally found its rightful place in American history.
Excerpt from the book:
"John Tyler was on his knees playing marbles when he was informed that Benjamin Harrison had died and he was now president of the United States. At that time marbles was a very popular game for both children and grown-ups."
For reasons still unknown, Texas congressman Thomas Lindsay Blanton, a Presbyterian Sunday school teacher and prohibitionist, inserted dirty words into the Congressional Record in 1921. His colleagues overwhelmingly censured him on October 24, 1921, by a vote of 293-0."

Stefan Kanfer, commended memoirist of Lucille Ball and Groucho Marx, now gives us the decisive life of Marlon Brando, neatly intertwining the person and the work to give us a fabulous and illuminating assessment. Starting with Brando’s turbulent infancy, Kanfer follows him to NY where he made his star-making Broadway debut as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Wish at age twenty-three. Brando then decamped for Hollywood, and Kanfer investigates each of Brando’s films over the yearsfrom The Men in 1950 to The Score in 2001offering cultured and judicious research of his occasionally brilliant, sometimes bewildering performances. And, eventually, Kanfer brings into focus Brando’s self-destructiveness, uncertainty toward his craft, and the crises that shadowed his last years.

In The Kind Diet, actress, activist, and committed conservationist Alicia Silverstone shares the tricks that inspired her to promise off beef and dairy for evermore and summarizes the impressive advantages of adopting a plant-based diet, from easy weight management to clear skin, off-the-chart energy, and smooth digestion. She explains how beef, fish, milk, and cheese the really foods we’ve been taught to regard as the foundation stone of good nutritionare essentially the culprits behind rising rates of illness and the reason behind dreadful, doubtless long-term damage to our ecology. Yet going meat- and dairy-free doesn’t mean suffering deprivation; to the in contrast, The Kind Diet introduces irresistibly tasty food that satisfies on each level it even includes superb puddings to keep the most unyielding sweet tooth cheerful. Alicia also addresses the nutritive concerns faced by many that are new to a plant-based diet, and shows a way to cover each nutritive base, from protein to calcium and beyond.

Alicia knows that changing life-long diet habits is a technique, and that each person advances at a different pace. Because of that, The Kind Diet incorporates 3 separate levels, from Flirting to Superhero. Flirts learn how to dip a toe into the vegan pool, reducing their meat-eating and swapping out one or two key foods for plant-based substitutes to see quickly how even little changes can harvest huge results. Vegans get to experience the life-altering aftermath of forgoing animal-products completely, while still enjoying many convenience foods and beef substitutes as well as the wonderful grains, plants and fruits that form the center of that diet. True enlightenment incorporates the Superhero program, based totally on the rules of macrobiotics and built on a foundation of whole grains, veggies, and other tantalizing foods that Alicia describes in detail. Whether your goal is to drop one or two pounds, increase your energy and metabolism, or save the world, Alicia supplies the support, the data, and the tools you want to make the transition to a plant-based diet deliciously enabling.
